Human nature is lazy and inherently selfish. The 5-Second Rule is the great book if you want get out of your head and into life. Life is too short. This technique helps you make every second count!

Here is the 5 Second Technique

When you have a good idea to better yourself, do a “5…4…3…2…1…” countdown and get to it. If you give yourself any longer time, you will make an excuse and don’t do it. The reason behind it, is that your brain is designed to protect you. As far as you do things on autopilot (the regular activities you do everyday without thinking about them) the brain wont interfere. However as soon as you want to do something outside your comfort zone, let be waking up earlier than you usually do, or making a sales call you don’t like to do, speaking in public that find it hard, no matter whatever it is that’s beyond your routine, your brain wakes up, feels uncertain and hence tries to stop you.

You have 5 seconds to count down and move.

Tip: It’s really helpful to make a physical movement after the countdown even if the task in something mental. Once you start moving it’s far more likely you’ll get working.

According to Mel Robbins, you will never ever feel like doing anything to better yourself. So don’t wait for the right time to come. Just decide and  force yourself.

Here is a quote from the book I like “Doing things that scare you actually make you more confident. If you have the courage to take action, your confidence will follow. Every time you push yourself to speak when you’re nervous, act when you’re afraid, or get to the gym when you don’t feel like it, you realize that you can rely on yourself to get anything done.” -Mel Robbins

The book is rooted in scientific study well and also shares many stories of people who applied it and witnessed the change it brought.

This book only makes you face yourself and and admit that the only person standing in your way is you, not your condition, not your family or society.

You want to stop lying to yourself and start doing what really matters for you? Read this book
